T08.2 b) c)

T08.2 Chemical potential II

To solve the point b) and c) im considering the next entropy function:

b) Calculate the Helmholtz free energy as a function of T, V, N.
Im using the relation between the Hemholtz free energy and the entropy:

c) Calculate the chemical potential µ as a function of T, V, N.
from the most new lecture notes, the expresion for the chemical potentential µ is given as:

  1. You result seems to be correct, up to the "N" which appears in the last term together with "k_B T".
It should not be there since the chemical potential is an intensive quantity. I guess it is simply a typo.

  2. Sorry I only commented on the part (c) --- the chemical potential. Part (b) for the Helmholtz free energy is correct.

  3. you're right, i forgot to remove N when i multiply entropy by T/N, thanks.
