Extending the section on quantum gases

Dear all,
now towards the end of the semester, its getting more and more difficult for me to find the time to continue our class on Statistical Physics. Here, please find the link to the latest update of our lecture notes (pag. 68-71).

Lecture Notes (update)

The last homework was meant to introduce and practice the concept of occupation numbers. In the  updated section 10.3 "Estadísticas de Boltzman, Bose-Einstein and Fermi-Dirac" I describe how the occupation numbers can be used to count the micro-states of systems of indistinguishable particles, in principle. Nevertheless, this section starts with the case of distinguishable particles, for which the single-particle quantum numbers are the more natural way of identifying (and count) the micro-states of the system.

Please read these three pages, and try to do the excercise on page 70. Any comments, corrections, and questions are very welcome. Preferably post them here in our blog.

  1. Good afternoon, I was wondering about when do we have to deliver the exercise of page 70

  2. This last excercise will not be evaluated as homework. So try to do it as soon as you can. Then we can discuss your results on Monday and/or Wednesday.

    1. Does this mean that this excercise could be counted as extra points?
